Welcome to the 2010 Sweetbay Supports Schools Program! In an effort to help support school wellness initiatives in our surrounding communities, Sweetbay Supermarket is teaming up with the Dairy Council of Florida to provide local families, businesses and community partners the opportunity to purchase products with a portion of the purchase price being returned to your school to help create a healthier school environment. Be sure to spread the word about the program to your school supporters to ensure maximum participation and a chance to win a Grand Prize of $10,000.
How the Program Works:
This program encourages both children and adults to purchase and eat more healthy foods such as low-fat and fat free dairy, fruits, vegetables and whole grains while being active for at least 60 minutes a day.
Your school supporters can participate from September 8, 2010 – November 2, 2010 at all Sweetbay Supermarket stores.
“School Dollar” coupons will be issued at the register to ALL customers who purchase selected products marked with the Support Local Schools tag.
Customers can then drop their “school dollar” coupons in your school’s designated drop box at the store, or:
- We encourage you to set up a collection box at your school and place it in a very high traffic area like the cafeteria to help remind everyone to participate.
- We have included a collection box sign as part of the Sweetbay Supports Schools toolkit sent to the Cafeteria Manager so students can drop off “school dollars” they bring from home.
- The Cafeteria Manager will receive an envelope and instructions by the end of October on how to submit the collected “school dollars” to any Sweetbay store.
- All “school dollars” must be collected and submitted by November 19, 2010.
Remember, each “school dollar” coupon NOT redeemed equals dollars lost for your school, so be sure to remind everyone about the program using your morning announcements and school newspaper.
School Dollar Coupon Redemption Amounts
Look for Sweetbay Supports Schools tags on participating products throughout the store or visit www.sweetbaysupportsschools.com starting August 31, 2010 for a complete list of participating brands and products. “School dollars” will be redeemed for real dollars with a check issued to your school on or about January 2011.
Purchase the following and earn dollars for your school:
a. Buy three (3) Supports Schools products = $2.00 “School Dollars”
b. Buy six (6) Supports Schools products = $4.00 “School Dollars”
c. Buy nine (9) Supports Schools products = $6.00 “School Dollars” …and so on…
Prizes
An additional $20,000 in grants will be awarded to the four (4) schools that raise the MOST total “school dollars”, in addition to the opportunity to participate in the Sweetbay Celebrity Bowling Classic, a VIP event where kids can bowl with some of Tampa Bay’s top current and retired professional athletes. Winning schools will also have an opportunity to host an award ceremony with a local professional athlete.

Where Do We Sign Up?
No sign up or registration is needed. Schools have been selected because of their proximity to a Sweetbay Supermarket. Your school will have a collection box already set up at your nearest Sweetbay store(s). If you shop at another Sweetbay store not located near your school, take your school dollars to the collection box at your school.
Tips for Success!
-- Set a goal! Determine what you want to use your “school dollars” for and then start collecting!
-- Promote the program! Hold a pep-rally, set up the collection box and send information home to parents.
-- Establish a coordinator to oversee the program from start to finish.
-- Establish a friendly competition between classes or grades and reward the winners with something that will continue to promote your health and wellness efforts.
-- Challenge other area schools.
-- Update staff, students and parents on program length.
-- Insert a drop in logo reminder in any school communication, newsletters, etc to remind parents/teachers/friends/family to shop and support your school.
-- Arrange a store tour to learn more about choosing healthy foods. Contact your local store manager or Customer Service Manager for details.
-- Partner with your nearby Sweetbay store for upcoming events and activities that promote health and wellness.
